After graduating from the University of Basel with a MA in African Studies (thesis: Malaria and Pregnancy), I worked at Mission 21, SwissTPH and the Center for African Studies in Basel. I gained experience in applied research in a project on psychosocial well-being of AIDS orphans in Zambia. After that, I worked for several years as a project coordinator in a NGO. The desire for hands-on work in the field got stronger. So we moved as a family for 4 years to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where, together with local leaders I rebuilt and strengthened a health board overseeing 120 health centres in South-West DRC. Together, we have implemented various health projects, most notably a malaria control program.
